Be Energetic ...

Apologies for the lack of communication but we really have just come through possibly the busiest part of the school year.

Immediately following my last ‘blog, Common Entrance got under way with Mental Maths and the French Listening & Speaking exams; there were also Spanish Orals for the academic scholars who have spent this term getting to grips with CE Spanish & Greek (just to keep them entertained!)

Recent sporting events have included the very last Dandys v WOSPS fixtures ever - in the form of rounders - won convincingly by the Dandylions (5 Belhaven girls were chosen to represent the Dandys this time around.) We have also had the Inter District hockey tournament – three boys came through final selection to represent their districts – two for the East and one for the Midlands, who beat the East in the final game to snatch gold. We won the opening Athletics meet of the season, beating five other schools by over 100 points. There has been a fair amount of cricket played - the 1st XI maintain their unbeaten record in all formats of the game - although the weather has not always been kind. Match reports in the usual places ….

The boarders have been to Foxfalls at Foxlake and have also been surfing; the PTFA hosted a James Bond dinner to raise money for new cricket nets; we held the U13 mixed doubles tennis finals at Belhaven (and won); we’ve hosted 2 days of ABRSM music exams; we had the Poetry recitation competition, this year held on the most beautiful morning in the walled garden;

we’ve taken part in Pyjama Day to raise funds for St. Abbs and Eyemouth Voluntary Marine Reserve; we’ve had the school photo; we’ve hosted the inaugural Old Belhavian Day and we’ve just finished the first half with the small matter of CE and School Exams and a full Governors’ Meeting and  Sports Day. And breathe …..

It’s so lovely to have the late half term but it will only serve to recharge the batteries just enough to get us ready for what is to come when we return:

After half term, it’s residential trips week:

  • The Ones are off to Italy;
  • the Twos to complete their Geography Field work and Science syllabus in the John Muir and at Bonaly;
  • the Threes are off to Ford Castle;
  • the Fours to York;
  • the Fives to Beamish and
  • the Sixes on various local day trips.

Once back, the final two weeks will be packed with:

  • IAPS athletics;
  • cricket, tennis, swimming and diving finals;
  • a beach clean;
  • the Leavers’ Guest dinner;
  • Fathers and Sons cricket;
  • Mothers and Daughters rounders;
  • the ‘Just a Minute’ final;
  • the Summer concert;
  • Leavers’ Evensong;
  • Pease Bay;
  • Superstars;
  • Leavers’ Beach;
  • Prize giving;
  • Leavers’ Dares and
  • the Athletics finals that were missed on Sports’ Day.

And collapse ….

That is all.
